Naggangbi (Greetings) 2024
Sydney Desalination Plant commissioned local Aboriginal artist Re-Right Collective to create this mural along its drinking water pipeline for Sydney.

The pipeline is on the lands and waters of the Bidjigal who carry the traditional knowledge of culture and place. The artwork is guided by the shape and form of the boomerang - a significant cultural object that references the history and cultural practices of the local Aboriginal community. The bend of the boomerang inspired the artists to create a key pattern that references the surrounding waterways.

The collective engaged with local artists and curators Dakota Dixon-Campbell and Wirrin Lowe, who each advised on elements of the artwork: the shellfish as a symbol of place and continued cultural practice; the wattles to mark the local flora that blooms across the shores of the local area, and the sea eagle, depicted flying away into the night starry sky in the area which was once home, before the airport was built.
